Case Study: Abbott Team Values
The Client & The Request:
A leader in nutrition science, Abbott’s nutrition business is a division of Abbott, the global healthcare company. Their goal is to deliver nutrition products and education that meet the challenging needs of families worldwide.
With recent changes in the nutritional marketing team the team leads recognised there was a need to reset and co-create strong foundation stones to support ambitious growth plans.
The marketing team wanted to bring to life their own identity and vibe. They recognised the need to co-create their purpose, to create a set of values and behaviours everyone could get behind whilst collectively owning their own individual responsibility. They wanted a fun and efficient way of enabling this work.

The Work
The programme comprised:
Partnering with the team and understanding their landscape
Short interviews & questionnaires with team members to understand the current reality of the team. All of the responses were treated confidentially & common themes insights used to shape the work.
Our Team DNA
A day together, held offsite and combining a systemic and co-coached approach to developing the teams’ DNA; their purpose, values and behaviours. The team closed off their day with team building activities and celebrations.
Team Development
An immersive, highly experiential and interactive workshop that focused on
generating awareness and appreciation of the teams’ current reality from which to springboard to the future from.
The team experienced standing in their version of today and then built up a picture of their tomorrow and used that information to shape a set of values to support their purpose. From there they co-created clear behavioural ways of working to maximise performance and uphold the values.
The team generated actions and commitments to build on and embed their work.
Team Building
Following the team development session, the team enjoyed a fabulous cocktail making workshop with Barz8 and then a celebratory dinner.
We made a request for each team member to bring to the day an object that said something about themselves. During the day and over dinner each team member told the story behind their object.
Actioning the outputs
Independently following the session the team worked on the agreed actions and commitments. They spent time reflecting on the values and behaviours and stress testing them in reality.
As a collective they:
- finalised the behaviours to support the values
- started a ‘trying it on period’ to stress test each individual value
- collectively agreed on the first actions they were prepared to commit to in order to bring the values to life
- reflected on the question: What might be some of the unwritten rules that exist currently that might undermine our values?
- appointed “DNA Champions” – a rotating small group of team members to take responsibility for championing bringing the values to life and checking in on successes
- co-created their purpose statement
- worked with their digital marketing agency to create a visual representation of their work
Their Brilliance
Working in collaboration with the teams’ digital marketing agency; E-Collective, the team generated their DNA manifesto in a style that was indicative of their unique team vibe. This is displayed in their offices and a desk top version created for each team member.
They now have a shared language for their team culture and a commitment to operationalising their values and behaviours to achieve ambitious performance goals with an admirable team vibe.
